Story time!!

Folks always ask where the name Bad Camper came from. We'll here you go! Fish was at the Standing Rock Sioux reservation protesting the Dakota Access oil pipeline and the water protectors were all camped out in teepees and yurts. Meanwhile across the river the militarized police, tiger swan and energy transfer partners were all looking in their binoculars muttering “those damn bad campers!!!” =] Them camping in the way of the pipeline construction was costing these guys an estimated $20 million day! After the protest was broken up Fish bought an old road bike and a travel guitar and with his last 300$ he cycled across the country playing music, picking up trash, camping on the side of the road, making friends and doing what he now calls “bad camping.” During his time at the reservation and over the following 9 months he wrote the majority of our first album so when he came back it only made sense to call the band Bad Camper!! This page is dedicated to the first song Fish wrote for the new album - Take it from Me. Conceived and written at Sacred Stone prayer camp in solidarity with the Tribe and their allies and their fight to protect the water of the Missouri river and the millions that drink from it.

After returning from Standing Rock, then cycling for a month picking up trash

Fish had a chance to work out the song and lyrics into its first version!

As you can tell, it’s a lot different than it is now!!

After playing this song for months and months over the course of Fish’s trip it naturally evolved and changed

The first important change that we hear is the Intro Guitar Riff

Another huge change was the tempo and feel of the song - it used to be a slow swing rhythm, but it evolved into a fast straight rock beat

Apart from those major musical differences, the lyrics and form of the song essentially stayed the same with a few small changes here’s fish’s demo that he made with the band and sent to producer David Lipps

It came a long way in 2 years!!

(But still had a long way to go)

Here’s a sneak peak at the music video we shot yesterday!! UNEDITED, UNCUT, FIRST and ONLY TAKE
