Day 2 - Dreams / Plans
Here it is - raw and uncut the lengthy process of turning a little seaside diddy into a complete idea then a fully produced track
It all starts with an idea - this time inspired by the thought that one day all our friends will find a spot to live together and enjoy our homestead. Recorded in Olon, Ecuador on a backpacking trip with an amazing human.
With a slight bit more confidence, a boost in tempo, and more inspiration for lyrics - the journey continues. Notice the slight yet important difference in the chorus melody compared to how it is now
One of the most important changes from the original idea was the beat/tempo. right after take 2 Fish tried picking the tempo up to a more folk/bluegrass style.
After taking the idea back to the states, Fish still knew there was something missing from the idea, a few things actually. A really catchy melody was the first

Then FINALLY!! it came!! at 1:20 you hear the OG melody and then in a random stutter at 1:23 Fish back tracked and sung what would become the final melody!
There was still something the song needed though. The slow groove was too slow…the fast groove was to repetitive. WHICH ONE TO CHOOSE? The answer wasn’t so obvious to young master fish. so he sent versions of both to all the band and David Lipps the producer. After some deliberation, it became obvious… CHOOSE BOTH!! You’ll hear at 1:03 the the beat switches from the slow to the fast. and VOILA! all the pieces of a Bad Camper Anthem =]]
In the studio…
Lipps and Fish worked quick, they were in a creative and technical flow as they had already recorded most of the album. When Fish returned from Ecuador with “a banger” they knew they had one more song to record (two actually). Fish quickly laid down the acoustic guitar part and melody heard above. After that everything came so naturally, unlike most songs they had one idea after another and used almost each take. Drums, bass, electric guitar, electronic drums and percussion, and of course the classic chorus harmonica and whistle. After only two days of recording and producing the track was finished!! A song like this only comes around a few instances in a lifetime - true creative magic.
